Ad Valorem Tax Disputes
Ad Valorem Taxes
Ad Valorem taxes have become a substantial issue and problem
over the past few years. In the past, valuations were typically low.
Now, largely because of problems with school finance and
increasing government expenditures, taxing authorities are
substantially more aggressive about tax valuation and typically
overvalue properties.
Ad Valorem taxes have their purpose. These taxes largely pay for
our children's schools, subsidize our hospitals, and provide for a
large portion of our county's, and city's budget. Unfortunately,
appraisal districts are continuing their practice of overvaluing
property.
Disputing tax valuations is a growing portion of our business. In
the past, our real estate attorneys have successfully disputed tens
of millions of dollars in tax valuations, saving our clients hundreds
of thousands of dollars.
